Owain Glyndwr or Owen Glendower (1359 - September 20, 1415) was a Welsh chieftain and nationalist. He studied law at Westminster, and became esquire to the Earl of Arundel. In 1401 he rebelled against Henry IV and proclaimed himself Prince of Wales. After establishing an independent Welsh parliament he joined the coalition with Harry Percy (Henry Hotspur) who was defeated at the Battle of Shrewsbury (1403). He continued to fight for Welsh independence until his death.
