Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) is a professional licensure exam for engineers in all fields, but generally popular only in a few engineering specialties such as civil engineering. A college degree and four years of engineering work after college is the typical prerequisite for taking this exam.[1]

Electrical engineers and computer programmers typically do not seek this form of licensure in order to obtain a job.
