RCT

A randomized controlled trial (RCT) is a common technique for studying the potential benefits of a new medication, by giving it to one random group of people while simultaneously giving a placebo to a similarly situated, but also randomly chosen, group of people.

An alternative approach is to use data already available and analyze that, as in a nonrandomized observational study, which is typically larger in the number of participants.
