Ribosome

The Ribosome is the cellular organelle that is the site of protein synthesis, specifically the translation of messenger RNA into a polypeptide chain. Ribosomes are unique among organic molecules in that they are made of both protein and ribosomal RNA, making them functionally similar to, but not exactly, proteins. Ribosomes are formed in the nucleolus and many become attached to the membrane of the rough endoplasmic reticulum, thus giving it its "rough" appearance.
