Ridgefield is a city in the state of Washington, across the Columbia River from Portland.
The Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge is located near the city, part of the refuge consists of a former ranch owned by the prominent Carty family. One of the Carty heirs, Anna Mary Carty, would with her husband Leonard Samuel (Sam) Shoen start the company which would become U-Haul, the large self-moving rental company.
