"Stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness." - Ephesians 6:14 (NRSV)

"In its deeper spiritual meaning, righteousness is the quality of being right in the eyes of God, including character (nature), conscience (attitude), conduct (action), and command (word). Righteousness is, therefore, based upon God's standard because He is the ultimate Lawgiver (Isaiah 33:22)."[1]

Righteousness is a term used frequently in English translations of the Bible. The highly respected, modern ESV uses it 272 times, a two-thirds of which in the Old Testament.
