Sacrilege

Sacrilege (from the Latin sacrilegium meaning robbing a temple - sacer, sacred, and legere, to purloin or steal.)

In general, sacrilege is the violation or injurious treatment of a sacred object or any transgression against the virtue of religion.

The Catholic Church recognizes three kinds of sacrilege: personal, local, and real.
