The Sandman is a mythical being from Northern European and Western European folklore. The creature is said to give sleepers "good dreams" by sprinkling grains of sand in their eyes. He is also said to ward off demons and evil spirits.

The American thrash metal band Metallica recorded a famous song about him in 1991 called "Enter Sandman". Another famous song about him, "Mr. Sandman", was recorded by The Chordettes in 1957 and later covered by other recording artists.
