Sandwell Council

Sandwell Council, or Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council, is the unitary authority that covers the parts of the traditional counties Staffordshire and Worcestershire, plus a detached part of Shropshire, that make up the administrative county Sandwell. The council area is located immediately north and west of Birmingham, and covers the south-eastern Black Country. The largest settlement in the council area is West Bromwich, Staffordshire (pop. 103,112), from which the council's namesake, the 12 century monastery Sandwell Priory, lies immediately east of the M5 motorway. The council meets at Council House in Oldbury. Sandwell's council area makes up part of the county for the purposes of lieutenancy West Midlands, as well as the like-named but much larger statistical region.
