The Sea of Galilee[1] (also known as the Lake of Gennesaret, Lake Tiberia, or Kinneret) is a large freshwater lake in northern Israel in the region of eastern Galilee. The Sea of Galilee (more properly designated a lake, and can also be called the Lake of Galilee) is fed by the Jordan River, although other rivers also flow into it from the hills of Galilee.[2] The Sea of Galilee is 13 miles long and 7 miles wide, and at its deepest point, is 150 feet below the ground. The Sea of Galilee is famous for its mentions throughout the Bible, primarily the Old Testament. The entire lake can be viewed from the top of nearby Mount Arbel.
