Sean MacBride

Sean MacBride (1904-1988) was an Irish Government Minister and prominent international politician. He was the son of Major John MacBride who was executed by the British in 1916.

Sean MacBride was the Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1948 to 1951. Later, during the 1960s and 1970s, MacBride worked to advance international human rights. In 1974 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize because he "mobilised the conscience of the world in the fight against injustice".
