Sessile Colony

The term sessile refers to growth without stalks. A sessile colony in sponges are buds that push out from the original sponge and eventually create full colonies from this budding process. In general, though some sea creatures that form sessile colonies do have mobile stages in the reproduction cycle, the colony itself is permanent.
