The Snipping Tool is a program included with the Windows Vista operating system and all later versions so far. It is screenshot[1] utility which can not only make an image of the complete area of the screen(s), but also selected portions.
To start this program on you post-Windows XP system, just click on the Start button, and click All Programs. Then select the Accessories folder, and click on "Snipping Tool."[2]

- Full-screen - Capture the entire screen (same result as from using the Print Screen key)[3]
- Window Snip - Select a specific window to capture (same result as from holding Alt while pressing the Print Screen key)[3]
- Free-form - Draw a free-form shape with your mouse, much like using the paint brush in MS paint[3]
- Rectangular - Drag click and drag with the cursor to form a rectangle[3]
