South Carolina primary 2022

The South Carolina primary 2022 is on June 14, 2022, and features many opportunities to defeat RINO incumbents. Because South Carolina requires a runoff if no candidate exceeds 50%, and runoffs are often more conservative in outcome, it is an ideal place to "primary" a liberal Republican.

Here is a growing list of the key races:

Congress

Two congressional races are targeted for conservative upsets of the RINO incumbents:

• Katie Arrington v. incumbent Nancy Mace, 1st Congressional District.
• State Rep. Russell Fry v. incumbent Tom Rice, 7th Congressional District.

State legislature

170 total voting members:

• House: 124 representatives (81 Republican, 43 Democrat) - elected every two years
  • Leadership: Speaker, James H. "Jay" Lucas; Republican Speaker pro tempore, Tommy Pope; Republican Majority Leader Gary Simrill
• Senate: 46 senators (30 Republican, 16 Democrat) - elected every presidential year, for four years
  • Leadership: President of the Senate, Thomas C. Alexander; Republican Majority Leader, A. Shane Massey

Primary challengers

The candidate filing period is from March 16 to 30. The primary is on June 14.

• Cole Kazmarski of Waterloo is running against Stewart Jones of Laurens in House District 14.
• Thomas Beach of Powdersville, a former U.S. Army Airborne Ranger, is running against second-term lawmaker West Cox (who voted with LGBTQ by opposing a bill to protect women’s sports, as sponsored by Rep. Ashley Trantham) of Piedmont in House District 10.
