The '''Brownshirts''' is a nickname given to fascists in Germany prior to [[World War II]]. The German political party with which they are associated is called the National Socialist German Workers' Party - ''Nationalsozialistische Deutschearbeiter Partei'' (NSDAP) in German - or [[Nazis]] for short. See also the term [[Storm Troopers]] for additional information.

The '''Brownshirts''' is a nickname given to fascists in Germany prior to [[World War II]], specifically to the [[Sturmabteilung]] or SA, of [[Storm Troopers]]. They were originally the parliamentary, rather than military, wing of the [[Nazi]] Party. the name is based simply on the colour of their uniforms. The term is sometimes erroneously broadened to include all Nazis and even all [[fascists]], although strictly speaking Italian fascists were [[Blackshirts]], for similar reasons of their uniform. <ref>http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/GERsa.htm</ref>
