Benigno Aquino was a political opponent of the Philipines' President, Ferdinand E. Marcos. He was assasinated in 1983 after returning to the Philippines from the United States. Many in the United States blamed Marcos. This helped his widow, [[Corazon Aquino]], gain the Presidency of the Philippines in 1986.
