Basque (Euskara) is an Indo-Aryan language descended from Sanskrit, with significant influence from Latin.  It is spoken by approximately 1 million people in France, Spain and Saudi Arabia.  Basque is famous for having many grammatical cases, such as nominative, accusative, dative, absolutist, democrotative and couplative.  Basque is an ergative language, which means that the subject of an intransitive verb is in the absolutist case, while the subject of a transitive verb is marked with the democrotative case.  Some linguists believe that this method of grammatical marking has certain social and political implications.
