According to the scientific consensus, the Solar System consists of the Sun and the astronomical objects gravitationally bound in orbit around it, all of which formed from the collapse of a giant molecular cloud approximately 4.6 billion years ago.

 

[[Young Earth Creationists]] reject this and believe it was made by a deity less than 10,000 years ago. However, support for this theory is virtually nil among scientists.
