Lignite better known as brown coal, is a mineral found in the Australian state of [[Victoria]] and in east [[Germany]]. The most common use of lignite is the generation of [[electricity]].  It is the dirtiest burning type of coal, this is due to lignite containing a large amount of chemical impurities. These pollute the surrounding environment when lignite is used as a fuel for power generation.
