== Introductory sentence ==
  −
  −
The First sentence in the article currently reads as follows:
  −
  −
:The Big Bang theory is a scientific theory used to account for the acceleration of matter throughout the Universe.
  −
  −
That appears to me to be wrong.  Firstly, the ''acceleration'' of matter is a relatively recent discovery and is currently explained by reference to what is called dark energy.  Secondly, as the article explains, the theory is not about the expansion of matter but also the expansion of space itself.

I propose that the sentence read as follows:
  −
  −
:The Big Bang theory is a scientific theory used to account for the observed expansion of the universe.
  −
  −
I invite the comments and criticism of other editors.  --[[User:Horace3|Horace3]] 19:17, 18 October 2012 (EDT)
