there was a suggestion about the first sentence on here, but it got deleted.  I looked at it and there didn't seem to be anything objectionable, just an idea about rewording one of the sections so that it was more accurate.  I would presume that its deletion was the result of some form of oversight.  If no-one objects I'll put it back on the page, and maybe change the article.  Tell me if I'm wrong, Thanks, [[User:Cmurphynz|Cmurphynz]] 11:09, 19 October 2012 (EDT)

==Introductory sentence==
 +
 +
The First sentence in the article currently reads as follows:
 +
The Big Bang theory is a scientific theory used to account for the acceleration of matter throughout the Universe.
 +
That appears to me to be wrong. Firstly, the acceleration of matter is a relatively recent discovery and is currently explained by reference to what is called dark energy. Secondly, as the article explains, the theory is not about the expansion of matter but also the expansion of space itself.
 +
I propose that the sentence read as follows:
 +
The Big Bang theory is a scientific theory used to account for the observed expansion of the universe.

I invite the comments and criticism of other editors. --Horace3 19:17, 18 October 2012 (EDT)
