The author of the books on which these films are based was known to be an anti-war, [[environmentalist]] [[Liberal professor]]. The protagonists frequently use magic for "good" which is in direct contridiction to the [[Bible]]. The hero of the film also forms a rather creepy romance with an Elvish princess, who is of another species, perhaps a symbol for bestiality.
