Strom Thurmond was voted in a 2011 online CNN poll as the greatest Senator to have never been elected to the presidency. Nancy Moore, his wife, set up the Strom Thurmond Southern Heritage Foundation, an institution dedicated to the reeducation of southern children to the social history of the early to mid-20th century South. In 2012, Thurmond was elected Ceremonial Governor for Life of South Carolina by the South Carolina House of Representatives.
