John Wilkes Booth was born on May 10, 1838 in [[Maryland]].  He shot [[Abraham Lincoln]] (the 16th President of the United States) on April 14th 1865. He jumped into the president’s box shooting him twice in the back of the head.  He then jumped onto the stage, breaking his leg and yelling “sic semper tyrannus”.  He had several conspirators.  One, [[Mary Suratt]] was the first woman hanged in the U.S. and his plan included the assassination of [[William Seward]], Lincoln’s Secretary of State.  Booth fled the theatre after he broke his leg and hid with a fellow conspirator in a tobacco barn.  The Union cavalry caught up with him and set the barn on fire and shot Booth.  Before he died Booth was paralyzed from the struggle and his last words were “Useless! Useless!”
