'''DSM''' stands for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, the official handbook of mental disorder classification published by the [[American Psychiatric Association]].  The DSM is used by many in the mental health field, such as clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, physicians, nurses, and others to diagnose psychiatric conditions. The first DSM was compiled in 1952.  The last major revision was DSM-IV published in 1994.  Over time many changes in classification have occurred such as with [[homosexuality]].  Supporters of the DSM publications believe the works have changed to reflect ongoing changes in psychology whereas critics see political agendas helping to mold changes in content.
