:According to [http://www.slate.com/blogs/moneybox/2013/11/18/star_trek_economy_federation_is_only_mostly_post_scarcity.html this article], Star Trek characters are still running various businesses, even though their is no longer any market to sell to, nor do they have any need to earn money. So the Federation's economic system can be described as "capitalism for the fun of it." Although this version of future may not be realistic, the idea that everyone is a small businessman at heart is definitely not Marxism.
