The [[Battle of Stalingrad]], one of the harshest battles in history, amongst many other battles in the Eastern Front of WWII, was successfully defended by the [[Soviet Union]]'s army against [[Nazi Germany]] aggression. The Soviet Union had [[state atheism]].
