Oliver Wendell Holmes (1809-1894) was an American poet and physician known for his teaching, medical research and writing the "Breakfast-Table" series of essays.

He is not to be confused with his son, [[Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.]], who was a prominent Supreme Court Justice.
