'''Pundit''' is an expert or opinion-leader who analyzes events in his or her area of expertise.

The [[etymology]] of the word pundit comes the original ancient [[Sanskrit]] word "Paṇḍita" used in [[India]] at least since 200 B.C. to refer to a very learned man or [[scholar]] in the realm of [[Indian philosophy]], [[Hinduism]] (the [[Vedas]] and [[Upanishad]]s), [[Buddhism]] (the [[Dharma]] of the [[Sutra]]s - [[Shastra]]s), or the "Five Sciences". These five sciences include medicine ([[Ayurvedic medicine]] or cikitsāvidyā), language (śabdavidyā), logic (hetuvidyā), arts - crafts (śilakarmasthānavidyā), and religion (adhyātmavidyā). An example is Sakya Pandita of [[Tibet]].
