The '''Tasman Sea''' is the part of the [[Pacific Ocean]] bounded to the north by the [[Coral Sea]], to the east by [[New Zealand]], to the south by the [[Southern Ocean]] and to the west by mainland [[Australia]] and the Australian island state of [[Tasmania]].

 

It is named after the Dutch navigator [[Abel Tasman]] who crossed it from Tasmania to New Zealand in 1632.
