== Christian quotes about music contrasted with prominent atheists ==
The Protestant Reformation leader [[Martin Luther]] declared, "Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world." [[Johann Sebastian Bach]] indicated: "I play the notes as they are written, but it is God who makes the music.” The ex-atheist [[[[C.S Lewis]] wrote: "The books or the music in which we thought the beauty was located will betray us if we trust to them; it was not in them, it only came through them, and what came through them was longing […] For they are not the thing itself; they are only the scent of a flower we have not found, the echo of a tune we have not heard, news from a country we have never yet visited.” The English writer and poet Walter Savage Landor wrote: ""Music is God's gift to man, the only art of Heaven given to earth, the only art of earth we take to Heaven.” Prominent atheists throughout history have not shown the same appreciation of music.
