The point I was trying to make is that Russia supports Belarus (sometimes called the last dictatorship in Europe) for the same reasons the United States supported The Taliban, Saddam Hussein, Pinochet and more recently Egypt and Saudi Arabia: protecting it's own interests.

It's just something large power hungry countries do.

Yes, Putin is a creep, but again, let's just wait until next year: the last thing Russia needs is another (civil)war, it has seen plenty of wars and revolutions and nothing good ever came out of them.

What facts did I twist, according to you?

They want to become a major player again, by modernizing their outdated military, but they're not gonna take on the US, in fact they need American support for their war in the Chechnya area.

The Cold war is over and is no longer needed. Now we have the War on Terror to take its place. Besides that Russians didn't call themselves communists. Union of Soviet Socialist Republics never was communist, was it? It's socialistic just like the EU is today. Whatever their politics are though isn't what makes Russia a threat these days. It's their alliances with China, Iran, and Syria. All of those nuclear plants in Iran are mostly Russian designs. Socialism has been adopted by most western countries so that Russian socialism is no longer a threat to the West. What ended the Cold War was when the West adopted socialism in 1992. Didn't you know that? What do you think Globalism is?--[[User:Roopilots6|Roopilots6]] 21:54, 21 April 2007 (EDT)
