In the [[United States]] suicide was - technically - a crime in a few states until recent years; however [[assisted suicide]] is considered a crime in most states (often akin to [[homicide]]). [[Oregon]] <ref>http://www.oregon.gov/DHS/ph/pas/</ref>, [[Washington]] <ref>http://blogs.wsj.com/health/2008/11/05/washington-passes-initiative-1000-legalizing-physician-assisted-suicide/</ref>, and [[Montana]]<ref>http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2010/0102/Montana-becomes-third-state-to-legalize-physician-assisted-suicide</ref> are the only states in the United States which currently allow assisted suicide. The states enforce strict mandates on the availability and administration of the procedure.
