'Big game' can refer to more exotic, usually [[Africa]]n animals such as [[elephant]]s, [[rhinoceros]]es and [[zebra]]s. During the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, it used to be a popular pastime for rich westerners, particularly [[aristocracy|aristocrats]], to go to Africa and bring back a collection of heads of impressive beasts such as [[gnu]]s, [[lion]]s and [[wildebeest]] as trophies. However, these species are seldom hunted in the present day since many of them are now on the brink of extinction.
