Baird is a [[Conservative Party of Canada | Conservative]] Member of Parliament for the riding of [[Ottawa]] West-Nepean in 2006 and appointed to the Privy Council as President of the Treasury Board in Canadian [[Prime Minister]] [[Stephen Harper]]'s first cabinet.

As President of the Treasury Board, he steered and created the Canadian Federal Accountability Act (anti-corruption legislation). On January 4, 2007, he became Minister of the [[Environment]] and was later succeeded in that role by Jim Prentice. He currently serves as Minister of Transport in the Canadian government.
