'''The Census of Marine Life''', according to their website is "a global network of researchers in more than 80 nations engaged in a 10-year scientific initiative to assess and explain the diversity, distribution, and abundance of [[life]] in the oceans. The world's first comprehensive Census of Marine Life - past, present, and future - will be released in 2010." Their mission is to document the abundance of [[marine]] life that has never been classified, to assess and explain what lives in the global ocean. Since the Census began in 2000, researchers have added more than 5600 species to the lists. The Census database already contains more than 16 million records. Also, the Census aims to produce maps where the [[animals]] have been observed or where they could live, and this can be used to possible show the consequences of global [[climate change]]. This project involves coastal and deep water analysis to model future ecosystems,
