| | ::And while I have you... the hyphen between the number and century (e.g. 4th-century) is wrong. It shouldn't be there. It has been bugging me for a while and this morning I finally looked into it. So every time I come across it in my travels I will revert it. I hope you will too. | | ::And while I have you... the hyphen between the number and century (e.g. 4th-century) is wrong. It shouldn't be there. | | + | :::You're right, it is certainly not allowed in the western world, or other "first-world" countries. I just thought that since it was still practiced in some places, it should be in the present tense. I suppose it doesn't matter much. |
| | + | :::As for the hyphen between he number and century, I do often see it printed this way, but can't coded that rule myself. It was actually a part of a friend's rule set. Since I'd seen it that way before, I made the common mistake of assuming. I did a little research, but am having a hard time finding out which way is correct. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Dates_and_numbers#Centuries%20and%20millennia WP says it should have a hyphen], but, well, it is WP after all. If you're sure that is incorrect, I can probably run a full correction job soon, to undo that everywhere. It might take some time to complete, since I would need to supervise it, but that's certainly an option. --[[User:DavidB4|<font color="ForestGreen">David B</font>]] <small>([[User talk:DavidB4|TALK]])</small> 08:35, 23 August 2016 (EDT) |

| | The history of American slavery is sorely lacking in this page, and I feel like it should be explored, both for the sake of K-12 students needing a trustworthy source of information, and to explain how slavery in America was justified through a mix of racism and the perversion of Christianity. The source of racism is somewhat obvious- African blacks were less technologically advanced (assumed to be dumber) and more war-like (because of limited resources), leading Southern whites to believe blacks were inferior humans and that slavery was a better arrangement for them. I believe the perversion of Christianity aspect needs some serious discussion. Slave-owners twisted our religion by simultaneously willfully misinterpreting passages from the Old Testament and completely ignoring the New Covenant whenever it was convenient for them. Most other sources on the topic of slavery are liberal and summarize to "white people hated black people because the Bible told them to". This site needs to set the record straight.--[[User:Pious|Pious]] ([[User talk:Pious|talk]]) 02:37, 23 August 2016 (EDT) | | The history of American slavery is sorely lacking in this page, and I feel like it should be explored, both for the sake of K-12 students needing a trustworthy source of information, and to explain how slavery in America was justified through a mix of racism and the perversion of Christianity.
