The University of Wisconsin-Madison is the flagship campus of the University of Wisconsin system. It is a large public research university, founded in 1848, with a current enrollment of about forty thousand students.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison has an enrollment of 41,466 students and a budget of $2.1 billion dollars (2005–06). It has one of the smallest minority enrollments among major schools, with only 11.5% of its student population being African American (2.7%), Asian American (5.2%), Native American (0.6%) or Hispanic (3%).
