Abedin became estranged from Weiner following his third scandal involving inappropriate behavior over the internet.  The FBI began investigating whether Weiner had improper communications with a minor child and obtained a subpeona for emails on his laptop.  The FBI's director then informed Congress that some of these emails may be related to the FBI's investigation of whether Clinton mis-handled classified emails. Abedin claims that she did not use her husband's laptop and does not know how any emails related to her work would get onto his electronic devices.  The controversy has become a widely-discussed issue in the closing days before the 2016 Presidential election.
