The scenic Lowlands village of Shotts is "one of Scotland's fairest prospects" according to local resisdent, current national bard, Lord Walter Scott IV (great grandson of the [[Walter Scott|original poet]]), and the ten-time winner of the fiercely fought "Lanarkshire in Bloom" contest. The surrounding hills, known as the bings, are common destinations for daytrippers from as far away as Fauldhouse and Harthill.
