'''John Cornelius Houbolt''' (April 10, 1919 – April 15, 2014) was an aerospace engineer credited with [[insight|recognizing]] the advantages of lunar orbit rendezvous (LOR) for the Apollo Space Program and convincing Wernher von Braun in June 1961 of its correctness. Tom Dolan has previously developed LOR. The concept was first known to be proposed in 1919 by Soviet engineer Yuri Kondratyuk.
