Plutarch was a [[Greek]] [[historian]], [[biographer]], and [[priest]] who lived from 46 to 127 AD.  He wrote ''Parallel Lives'' (''Vitae Parallae''), comparing great [[Roman]] and [[Greek]] men, to illustrate the similarities between the peoples in an attempt to bring their societies into greater [[harmony]].  This goal, arguably realized, was an extension of the [[Hellenization]] of the [[Roman Republic]] that occurred in the centuries prior to Plutarch's life.
