A '''simple random sample''' (sometimes '''SRS''', oftentimes '''random sample''') is a method of taking a sample from the target population with completely randomised selection in order to minimise bias. More complex versions of the simple random sample include [[stratified random sampling]] and introducing [[block design]] to random sampling.

==Example==
A school inspector wants to learn how many students like pizza lunches. The inspector decides to take a sample of the 2400 students, and wants a sample size of 200. How should she choose the sample?

She should alphabetise the students, then label the students 0001-2400. Then, she will use a random number generator or a random digit sheet to select students, skipping repeat numbers and skipping numbers over 2400.
