Despite her liberalism, she had a [[Christian]] upbringing and she recorded a gospel album which was her first. However, she became an apostate and promoted lesbianism with her single "I Kissed a Girl" and other liberal themes in other songs.
Her latest album, ''Witness'', was deemed a flop critically and in sales. Some attribute this in part to the Hollywood feud with [[Taylor Swift]], though critics noted a lack of depth in the album, and a lack of substance with lackluster pop song hooks.
