*That bit of poetry is pretty bad, but I think it is supposed to be that way because it is by Bilbo and he's not supposed to be at all good compared to the elves. Many of the other poems in the book are excellent. I especially like the first poem in the chapter called "Farewell to Lorien" (the one that is not in elvish).
