Younger won a [[special election]] on November 25, 2014 to succeed fellow Republican Terry W. Brown, who died of cancer while serving in the state Senate. In that contest, Younger defeated Robert A. "Bobby" Patrick, Jr., a Republican, though Mississippi special elections are officially non-partisan.<ref name=ballotpedia>{{cite web|url=https://ballotpedia.org/Charles_Younger|title=Charles Younger|publisher=Ballotpedia.org|accessdate=October 16, 2017}}</ref> On  August 4, 2015, Younger again defeated Patrick, this time in the Republican primary, 4,620 (64.4 percent) to 2,551 (35.6 percent).<ref name=ballotpedia/> He then ran without  opposition in the November 3 general election.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.sos.ms.gov/Elections-Voting/Pages/2015-General-Election.aspx|title=General election returns|date=November 3, 2015|publisher=Mississippi Secretary of State|accessdate=October 16, 2017}}</ref>

In 2017, Younger co-sponsored the prohibition against local governments pursuing [[sanctuary city]] policies. He supported the legislation which authorizes additional methods of execution in Mississippi and co-sponsored the measure to declare as a [[hate crime]] the targeting of law-enforcement officers by the lawless element.
