The Hebrew word "Almah", "עלמה" actually translates to a young, marriageable woman who is still under the protection of her family. So, the NRSV translators seem to actually be translating Isaiah 7:14 more accurately. But I'm no expert. [[User:NP|NP]]

:In translating this word as "virgin," KJV follows the Latin and the Greek versions of the passage. Scriptural quotations in the New Testament follow the Septuagint (Greek) rather than Hebrew. NRSV follows the Masoretic text, which was compiled around AD 700. It is likely that earlier Hebrew manuscripts varied widely in content. The Septuagint is almost a thousand years older than the Masoretic. [[User:PeterKa|PeterKa]] ([[User talk:PeterKa|talk]]) 04:58, 18 November 2017 (EST)

:This passage is quoted in Matthew with the woman described in Greek as a virgin. The KJV translators had a policy of "harmonizing" Old Testament passages with the quotations given in the New Testament. Matthew got his version from the [[Septuagint]], or Greek scripture. The Septuagint is almost a thousand years older than the Masoretic text used by NRSV. [[User:PeterKa|PeterKa]] ([[User talk:PeterKa|talk]]) 21:45, 18 November 2017 (EST)
