Edwards and his wife, the former Sonja Suzann South (born 1972), who married while both were TAMU students, actually reside in rural Alvord, eleven miles northwest of Decatur, where Edwards was reared. The couple has three sons, the oldest of whom, Ryan, is adopted and is is a student of marine biology at the Texas A&M campus in Galveston.<ref name=facebook/> Edwards is a [[pro-life]] candidate.
