: That's nice. A few problems: 1) no one denies that there were religious elements in the founding of the United States 2) The Mayflower Compact was well before the US was founded 3) Many of the people who came to the US came not for religious reasons, some colonies of the 13 original were not founded for religious but enonomic reasons, and other colonies were founded specifically for general religious freedom. :: Geyerv's point is a good one.  Many today, particularly teachers and textbooks, try to minimize or ignore the Christian basis for the United States.  The statement in the Mayflower speaks of a mission for "advancement of the Christian faith."  As the first governing document for what became the United States, that is worth knowing and publicizing.--[[User:Aschlafly|Aschlafly]] 18:18, 15 February 2007 (EST)
