John Bunyan (1628–1688) was the author of ''[[Pilgrim's Progress]]'', an allegory of the Christian faith.

An Englishman, Bunyan converted to the Baptist faith and was imprisoned for 12 years for preaching without a license. During his imprisonment he wrote ''[[Pilgrim's Progress]]'' in two parts, and it became the most widely read work in English after the Bible.
